Before the Antietam Campaign: From Brookville, he enlisted in Company I, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 1 June 1861. In the Antietam Campaign: He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Wounded again at Fitzhugh's Crossing, VA and mortally at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863. He died of wounds on 17 July 1863.
