On the Antietam Campaign

The 5th US crossed the Middle Bridge over the Antietam shortly before noon on 17 September and took position on the right of the Boonsboro Turnpike, its left resting on the Pike, in support to the Artillery in its front. It was withdrawn across the creek late in the day.
