History of the Unit: The regiment was formed at Camp Walker at New Orleans, Louisiana, during the spring of 1861 with men from De Soto, Natchitoches, Lincoln, St. Landry, Claiborne, Rapides, and Caddo parishes. The unit fought with the Army of Northern Virginia for most of the War.
