 History of the Unit: The regiment was recruited from the North Carolina counties of McDowell, Cleveland, Iredell, Moore, Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, and Lincoln in the Spring of 1862. They served in the Army of Northern Virginia, fighting on the Peninsula, 2nd Manassas, and Maryland Campaigns. The remainder of the War: They were at Fredericksburg in December, then in North Carolina around New Bern. They were at Drewery's Bluff and Cold Harbor (May and June 1864) , in the trenches at Petersburg (1864-5), and at Appomattox. References, Sources, and other Notes: Source: Crute, Joseph H.
