Unit history

They organized and entered SC State Service 13 April 1861 at Orangeburg; and mustered into Confederate Service on 4 June 1861. On 13 April 1862 the 12-month term expired and the regiment disbanded, but on 23 April 1862 they reorganized. Their strength at that time was about 650 men. They were at the battles of Blackburn's Ford, 1st Manassas, in the Richmond (Penisular) Campaign, and 2nd Manassas, before arriving at South Mountain, 14 September 1862.

After the Sharpsburg Campaign

Afterwards they fought at Fredericksburg, Wauhatchie, the Knoxville Siege, The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna, the Petersburg Siege, and Appomattox Court House. The regiment surrendered at Appomattox with 19 officers and 263 men.
