History of the Unit: One of the two batteries formed in Fluvanna County, Virginia, in the Spring of 1861. In the Antietam Campaign: This battery was in reserve, on the Virginia side of the ford on the Potomac just below Shepherdstown, for the later part of the Campaign. They lost one gun and a caisson at the skirmish at Shepherdstown on September 19, 1862. The remainder of the War: The 1st and 2nd (Ancell's) Fluvanna Batteries were consolidated in early October 1862 into one unit.
