History of the Unit:
Mustered in as Company "A," 17th Indiana Infantry, June 12, 1861. Left State for Parkersburg July 2nd. Attached to Reynolds' Cheat Mountain District, West Virginia, to November, 1861, and in Milroy's Command to July 1862. At Winchester to September 1862 under BGen White, then Miles' Command at Harpers Ferry.
