He mustered as Private in Company E, 2nd Florida Infantry on 13 July 1861. One unverified source has him as a Sergeant at Sharpsburg. He was probably commissioned Lieutenant, date not given.

On the Campaign

According to Captain Ballantine, he commanded the remains of the Regiment on 17 September 1862 after the Captain was wounded. Geiger was captured in action at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was later exchanged. He was elected Captain on 5 January 1864.
