Before Sharpsburg

He was commissioned Captain of Company G, 7th Tennessee Infantry on about 25 May 1861. He was appointed Major after Lt Colonel Howard's death on 9 July 1862. He commanded the regiment at 2nd Manassas on 28 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He commanded the regiment in Maryland, but was left behind or fell out on the march from Harpers Ferry to Sharpsburg early on 17 September - as did more than half of the regiment. The regiment was commanded there by the Adjutant, Lieutenant Howard.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 8 April 1863 and commanded at Gettysburg after Colonel Fite was captured there. He surrendered with his regiment at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1900 and to at least 1910 he was a farmer in Wilson, TN.
