Washington Leonidas Grice

A lawyer in Butler, GA since 1855, he mustered as 2nd Sergeant, Company G, 6th Georgia Infantry on 27 May 1861 and was commissioned Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 27 February 1862. He was discharged 15 May 1862 and commissioned that date as Major, 45th Georgia Infantry.

He was in command of the regiment in Maryland as senior officer present.

He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 13 October 1862 but resigned his commission on 17 March 1864 having been elected to the Georgia State Senate. After the legislative session, on 26 May, he again enlisted, as First Sergeant, Pruden's Battery, Georgia Light Artillery. He was surrendered with them at Milledgeville, GA on 12 May 1865.

He returned to his law practice, first in Hawkinsville, then Perry, GA. In 1877 he was appointed judge of the Superior Court. He returned to Hawkinsville in 1922 died there at age 93 in 1925.
