Unit history

This battalion was formed in the Army reorganization of April 1862 by consolidating the 450 men of the 4th SC Infantry Regiment into five companies.1

On the Sharpsburg Campaign

Following Sharpsburg, the Fourth was down to "a handful of men", and they were transferred to the Hampton Legion's Infantry.1
