History of the Unit: This battalion was formed in the Army reorganization of April 1862 by consolidating the 450 men of the 4th SC Infantry Regiment into five companies.1 In the Antietam Campaign: Following Sharpsburg, the Fourth was down to "a handful of men", and they were transferred to the Hampton Legion's Infantry.1
