History of the Unit:
The Regiment saw duty in the defences of Washington DC til Spring of 1862. They were then on the Peninsula and Bull Run Campaigns.

In the Antietam Campaign:
"Arriving on the field on the afternoon of September 16th, Lieut. Col. John Clark. Comd'g the Regiment immediately deployed eight companies as skirmishers."

"When the 2nd Brigade advanced on the morning of September 17th, the Regiment fell into line, and 600 yards South of this point became engaged with Hood's Confederate Division".

The remainder of the War:
They were at Fredericksburg in December and on the "mud march" of January 1863, but spent the remainder of that year again defending Washington. They campaigned in Western Virginia in 1864, seeing action at Cloyd's Mountain in May.
