History of the Unit: They first served at Yorktown, Virginia, until the Spring of 1862. They then saw action in the defense of Richmond (notably at Seven Pines) during McClellan's Peninsula Campaign. In the Antietam Campaign: They were engaged with light losses at South Mountain on 14 September, then heavily at Sharpsburg on 17 September. The Regiment lost its flag at Sharpsburg. The remainder of the War: They continued in service with the Army of Northern Virginia, at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Petersburg, and Appomattox.
