In the Antietam Campaign: Col Meredith was in command of the Regiment as part of the Brigade's assault on South Mountain on September 14th, but he turned over command to LCol Bachman on the 16th due to lingering effects of injuries suffered at Groveton (August). LCol Bachman was mortally wounded leading a charge of the Regiment down the Hagerstown Pike on the morning of September 17th, and Captain Dudley took command.
