Commanding Officer on the Sharpsburg Campaign:
Capt. J. B. Brockenbrough
On the Sharpsburg Campaign
According to a tablet on the battlefield at Antietam, the battery's single 12 pounder howitzer was of iron rather than the usual bronze, and was unique at the battle. Thanks to Richard Smith for posting the tablet photo to the Facebook All About Antietam group. There were at least two other iron 12-pounder howitzers (one US, one CS) at Sharpsburg, so it's not clear what was unique about Brockenbrough's.
