Before Antietam
He enlisted in Company E, 155th Pennsylvania Infantry on 22 August 1862.
On the Campaign
Camped at Young Ladies Seminary building in Urbana, MD on 16 September 1862. Noted for recording his name and other graffiti on the walls there.
The rest of the War
Mustered out with his Company, June 2, 1865.
After the War
He was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Pittsburg. He was judge of the US District Court for Puerto Rico from 1904 - 06, appointed by President Theodore Roosevelt, and later of the Allegheny County Court. Known as the regimental artist, he helped compile and edit the regimental history (1910), and was its primary illustrator.
