He was wounded in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.

He was discharged at US Army General Hospital, Frederick, MD on 6 March 1863 from wounds; arm amputated.

After the War

He was a telegraph operator for the Reading Company for nearly 40 years and lived in Norristown, PA.
