Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted 4 May 1861, in New Orleans, as Corporal in Company K, First Louisiana Infantry. He was a mechanic, living in Texas, and married. In November and December 1861 he was listed as "Absent, confined in Portsmouth jail", but back with his unit in January. He was promoted Jr. 2nd Lieutenant on 28 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in both legs and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Paroled and sent from Fort McHenry to Fortress Monroe, VA, for exchange. Exchanged at Aikens Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He was absent, wounded through December 1862. Promoted to First Lieutenant on 30 January 1863. He was captured in action at Woodstock, VA on 20 October 1864. He was received at Harpers Ferry, and forwarded to Ft. Delaware, DE, on 3 November 1864. He died of pneumonia, April 24, 1865.
