John H. McCartney

He had served in the First (Dreux's) Battalion of Louisiana Volunteers. He enlisted 13 May 1862, in Richmond, VA, in the 3rd Company, Battalion of Washington Artillery. He had been a clerk, age 26, single, resident of New Orleans.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

He was in the Confederate Hospital, Culpepper, VA by 3 November 1862. He was detailed to duty in the Ordnance Department, Richmond, VA from 29 Apri 1863 to 26 April 1864, then back with his Company. He was on List of Prisoners of War, Paroled Lynchburg, VA on 13 April 1865, and of Paroled Prisoners remaining in Richmond under heading Amnesty Oath administered to Paroled of 26 May 1865.
