Before Sharpsburg
He moved with his family from his birthplace to Perry County, AL in about 1853, on his father's death. Then an unmarried 17 year old farmer from Radsfordville, he enrolled in Company A, 8th Alabama Infantry on 8 May 1861. He was appointed 2nd Corporal, date not given. He was present at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, and 2nd Manassas in 1862.
On the Campaign
He was present at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Then at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, PA where he was wounded by shrapnel in the leg and captured in action on 2 July 1863. He was treated at the US 12th Corps hospital at Gettysburg and at DeCamp hospital in New York Harbor. He was paroled at DeCamp and exchanged in February 1864. He was with his Company from the Wilderness through the siege of Petersburg.
After the War
He married in 1866 and moved his family to Texas in about 1873 (and dropped the "e" in his last name). He lived in Austin, Bell, and Navarro Counties.
