He enlisted in Company E, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 2 February 1862 in Columbia, SC at age 20.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 at Fox's Gap.

The rest of the War

Held at Fort Delaware, he was sent to Aikens Landing, VA and exchanged on 6 October 1862. He was at the General Hospital #23, Richmond, VA until furloughed home in November. He returned to duty in January 1863, but was killed in action at Spotsylvania, VA on 8 May 1864.
