Before Antietam
He was in Company H, 6th Pennsylvania Reserves.
On the Campaign
He was severely wounded in the abdomen in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at the Stone House (S. Poffenberger farm) Hospital at Sharpsburg, MD. His wound was thought to be mortal, but he recovered. He served in the Veteran Reserve Corps, but transferred back to his old Regiment and miustered out with them on 11 June 1864.
