Before Antietam
He enrolled 12 September 1861 as First Lieutenant, Company D, 81st Pennsylvania Infantry. He was promoted Captain on 16 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the right leg, broken, in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a hospital at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg, PA. He was discharged 28 February 1863.
