Before Antietam

A 28 year old hostler from Newburyport, he enlisted in Company E, 19th Massachusetts Infantry on 25 July 1861. He was appointed Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was reported missing in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his Company in October and was discharged 10 November 1862 to enlist in the Regular Army. He enlisted on that date at Harrisburg, PA in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 15th US Infantry. He reenlisted 16 February 1864 at Chattanooga, TN, and was discharged as Corporal, Company E, 24th US Infantry on 16 February 1867 at Jackson, MS.
