A 19 year old farmer from Falmouth, he enlisted in Company F, 19th Massachusetts Infantry on 20 August 1861. He was wounded in the shoulder in action at Glendale, VA on 30 June 1862. He was appointed Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in the hand in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He may have been promoted to Sergeant, date not known, and mustered out on 28 August 1864.
