Before Antietam
An 18 year old shoemaker in South Danvers, he enlisted on 1 December 1861 in Company H, 19th Massachusetts Infantry. He was reported missing, and was probably captured, in action at Glendale, VA on 30 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the foot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He transferred to Company F, 22nd Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 31 October 1863 and mustered out 16 December 1864, at the end of his term.
