Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old on his parents' prosperous plantation (33 slaves, 3 free-black field hands) at Warrenton in Warren County, GA. He enrolled there and was appointed 2nd Lieutenant of Company B, 48th Georgia Infantry on 4 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
