Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 22 year old farmer in Centreville, AL, he mustered as Private, Company F, 11th Alabama Infantry on 11 June 1861 in Centreville. He was in action with his Company on the Peninsular Campaign of 1862 and at 2nd Manassas in August. He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant in September.

On the Campaign

He was present with his unit at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant, Company F, 44th Alabama Infantry and transferred to that unit on 15 January 1863. He was promoted to 2nd then First Lieutenant in June 1863 and to Captain on 29 November 1864. He was with his unit in all engagements (except sick at Chickamauga, GA) to the end of the War.
