Richard Young Bennett

He enlisted as Private, Company H, 2nd Mississippi Infantry on 1 March 1862.

He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

He was listed as deserting to the enemy on 7 January 1865.

He married Nancy Catherine Medford (1842-1880) in December 1865 and they had 4 children together. His brother Miles Jefferson Bennett, Jr (1840-1911) was in the same Company and served through the War.
