Before Sharpsburg
From Kershaw County, he enlisted as Private in Company D, 15th South Carolina Infantry on 8 August 1861. He transferred to Company C, 6th South Carolina Infantry "by exchange", date not given.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the leg above the ankle in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 (or at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 15 September).
The rest of the War
He returned to duty in late 1863 but was killed in action at Petersburg, VA on 21 June 1864.
