Before Sharpsburg

Living on his parent's farm in York County, he enlisted as Private, Company B, 5th South Carolina Infantry on 13 April 1861. Company B became Company F at the reorganization of April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD but died there on 30 September 1862.
