Before Antietam
A 26 year old carpenter in Green County, he enlisted on 20 April 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company K, 8th Pennsylvania Reserves on 22 June 1861. He was promoted to Corporal, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the left hand and, mortally, by gunshot through his right lung in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD, on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 18 September but died of wounds there on 24 September 1862.
