An unmarried 19 year old farmer in Lamar, he enlisted on 26 July 1861 in Montgomery, AL and mustered as a Private in Company K, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
