Before Sharpsburg
A physician's son, in 1860 he was an unmarried 18 year old clerk living with his father, stepmother, and 5 siblings in Wesobulga, Randolph County, AL. Giving his occupation as merchant, he enlisted on 19 July 1861 in Montgomery, AL and mustered as 2nd Sergeant of Company D, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 1 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was with his Company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His father Dr. Franklin Madison Ferrell (1812-1878) filed for his final pay of $188.89 in January 1864 and probably received it in November or December 1864; Dr. Ferrell was then living in Lafayette Springs, MS.
