An unmarried clerk in Mobile, he enlisted there as Private, Company H, 8th Alabama Infantry on 14 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured. He was later placed on a Roll of Honor by the men of the regiment for his bravery there.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 27 September but died of wounds on 4 October 1862 at Sharpsburg, MD while still a prisoner.
