Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as Private, Company H, 17th South Carolina Infantry on 9 December 1861 at Camp Hampton near Columbia, SC. He was promoted to 3rd Corporal, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain, MD on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to First Corporal by January 1863 and elected 3rd Lieutenant on 1 March 1863. He was captured at Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865, briefly in the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC, then sent to Fort Delaware on 30 March. He took an oath of allegiance there and was released on 17 June 1865.
After the War
By 1880 he was a farmer in George's Creek Township, Barnwell County, SC.

His service from his Compiled Service Records, with his presence at "Boonsboro" and Sharpsburg from Colonel McMaster's list for the 17th South Carolina (Confederate States Army Casualty Lists and Narrative Reports, RG 109, NARA), online from fold3. Personal details from family genealogists, at least one of whom has his middle name as James, and the US Census for 1880. His gravesite is on Findagrave. His photograph, possibly taken after the war, was kindly provided by descendant Larry Hutto.
He married Nancy Ann Elizabeth "Eliza" Aldrich (1837-1918) in about 1855 and they had at least 7 children.
His brother Richard C Creech (1835-1913) was also in Company H and may have been at Sharpsburg. They were two of 6 brothers in Confederate service.
