Before Antietam

From Mercer, PA, he enlisted as First Sergeant of Company G, 10th Pennsylvania Reserves on 19 June 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 10 May and Captain of the Company on 17 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He assumed command of the Regiment at Antietam on the 17th as senior officer present, in relief of Lieutenant Colonel Warner.

The rest of the War

He died on 6 January 1863 of wounds received in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862.
