Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer on his father Zebulon's place in Pinckney, Lewis County, NY. He enlisted at Rodman, NY as a Corporal in Company F, 94th New York Infantry on 2 November 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in the right arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Part of his right radius (forearm bone) was removed by surgery on 15 October, but he did not recover, and his arm was amputated on 19 December. He died of his wounds on 30 December 1862, probably in a US Army hospital in Washington, DC.
