Charles Edward Bott

He enlisted as 3rd Sergeant of Company K, 33rd Virginia Infantry on 18 May 1861 at Mt Jackson, VA, promoted to 2nd Sergeant on 1 January 1862, and was elected and commissioned (Junior) 2nd Lieutenant on 24 April 1862. He was captured at Middletown (or Strasburg), VA on 2 June, held at Fort Delaware, and was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 15 August 1862.

He was wounded by a gunshot through his left forearm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

He was afterward absent, recovering, and resigned his commission on 17 August 1863, disabled by his Sharpsburg wound.

He enrolled again, on 4 May 1864, as First Lieutenant of Captain Moore's Company B, First Battalion Virginia Reserves, later designated Company C, 8th Battalion, Virginia Reserves (First Battalion Valley Reserves). He was listed as disabled, but among men at New Market, VA surrendered and paroled on 14 April 1865.

In 1880 he was an engineer in St. Louis, MO.

He may have changed his name to Botts later in life, and his children all use that spelling.

He married Emma V Pritchard (1841-1919) in 1864 in Shenandoah County, VA.
