Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer on his father's place at Alma in Page County, VA. He enlisted as 2nd Corporal of Company H, 33rd Virginia Infantry on 1 June 1861 at Luray, VA and was wounded at First Manassas on 21 July. He promoted to 2nd Sergeant on 1 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was probably killed or mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, with no later record.
