Before Sharpsburg
Age 21, from Holmes County, MS, he enlisted on 9 March 1861 at Durant, MS and mustered as a Private in Company I, 12th Mississippi Infantry on 9 May 1861 in Corinth, MS.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 11 October but was back with his Company by January 1863. He was captured on the Weldon Railroad/Davis Farm near Petersburg, VA on 21 August 1864 and a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD to 1 November 1864 then sent South for exchange. He was paroled at Meridian, MD on 9 May 1865.
