Before Antietam

Age 40, he enlisted on Long Island, NY, mustered in as a Corporal in Company D, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861. He was promoted to Commissary Sergeant then returned to Company D as a Private, dates not given. He was again promoted to Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital (GH) #5 in Frederick, MD on 18 September, transferred to GH #1 there on 20 September, and sent on to Baltimore on the 23rd. He was discharged for disability at Fort Schuyler, NY on 28 February 1863.
