Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted at Augusta, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as 3rd Corporal of Company C, 48th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was severely wounded in the head in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was appointed to 5th Sergeant on 5 October. He was sent to a hospital in Winchester, VA and then to Williston, SC on furlough, extended to 14 April 1863. He was transferred to Company H, 2nd South Carolina Artillery on 18 April 1863. He was surrendered and paroled at Augusta, GA on 20 May 1865.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a grocer in Augusta, GA. In 1900 he was listed as a landlord there.

He married California Nolin (1843-) in 1863 and they had a son John (1864-1884). He married again, her sister the widow Elizabeth Ann Nolin Willis (1826-1901) in 1875.
