Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 31 year old planter living next door to his recently widowed mother in Burke County, GA. He enlisted there on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Sergeant in Company D, 48th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded in the back in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, by a gunshot to his forearm at Manassas Gap, VA on 23 July 1863, and was furloughed home on 5 August. He returned to duty by April 1864 and was with his company to at least December 1864, but was deemed disabled for further field service due to his arm wound by Assistant Surgeon D. P. Holloway of his regiment on 3 December. He was detailed on 17 January 1865, probably returning home.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer at Griffin's Landing in Burke County.
