Before Sharpsburg

From the Lancaster District, he enlisted on 28 April 1862 at Lancaster Court House, SC and mustered as a Private in Company D, First South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 suffering a "flesh wound by minie ball in left arm."

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a Richmond, VA hospital on 27 September and returned to duty on 12 January 1863. He was slightly wounded in the leg in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864. He was surrendered and paroled on 9 April 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.
