Age 19, from the Lancaster District, SC, he enlisted on 20 July 1861 at Summerville, SC and mustered as a Private in Company D, First South Carolina Infantry. He extended his enlistment when it expired on 12 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 by a "minie ball through left foot. Left in enemy's hands."

The rest of the War

There is no later military record and no Federal prisoner record found.
