Before Sharpsburg

Age 21, he enlisted in Summerville, SC on 20 August 1861, and mustered as a Private in Company B (later K), First South Carolina Infantry. He was 2nd Corporal by Sharpsburg.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, bruised on his left hip by a minie ball.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 4 April 1863 and appointed First Sergeant on 1 February 1865. He was surrendered and paroled with his company at Appomattox Court House on 9 April 1865. He was sent to a US Army hospital on 13 April 1865 with no later military record.
