He enlisted in Columbia County on 4 March 1862 and mustered on 6 May as a Private in Company K, 48th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was listed as missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Except for a brief period of illness in June 1863, he was with his company to the surrender at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865. He was paroled again, at Augusta, GA on 20 May 1865.
