A 34 year old farmer, he enlisted at Spartanburg, SC on 1 July 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company K of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and had 4 fingers amputated.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 28 September and furloughed home on 3 October 1862. He does not appear to have ever rejoined his company, but was listed as surrendered and paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865.
